Morella Community Centre officially opened in 1984. Since its opening, Morella has evolved to become quite an integral part of the Parafield Gardens and Salisbury Downs Community. We are a part of the City of Salisbury and are independently run by our own Management Committee which is made up of staff, volunteers and community members.

Commitment to Child Safeguarding
Morella Community Centre is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all children and young people. We recognise our responsibility to safeguard children from harm, abuse, neglect, and exploitation and to promote their wellbeing in all aspects of our work.
We have zero tolerance for child abuse and are committed to acting in the best interests of children and young people at all times. All staff, volunteers, contractors, centre users, visitors, and partners share responsibility for creating and maintaining a child-safe culture where children feel respected, valued, and heard.
Morella Community Centre will:
- Prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children in all decisions and activities.
- Ensure staff, volunteers, contractors, centre users and visitors understand their responsibilities in relation to child safeguarding.
- Maintain a safe physical and online environment for children and young people.
- Implement clear procedures to prevent, identify, and respond to concerns about the safety or wellbeing of children and young people.
- Encourage anyone using our facilities or services to report concerns about child safety.
- Promote respect, inclusion, and cultural safety for all children and young people, including the needs of children and young people who are;
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
- From culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
- With disabilities
- Who are vulnerable
- Regularly review and strengthen our safeguarding practices.
- In line with our Code of Behaviour, bullying and harassment of any person including children and young people will not be tolerated
All staff, volunteers, contractors, student placements, centre users, and visitors are expected to behave in a manner that upholds the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of children and young people while attending or using our services and facilities.
Breaches of the Child Safeguarding Commitment
All staff, volunteers, contractors, student placements, centre users, and visitors are expected to uphold this commitment to child safeguarding and comply with the organisation’s child safety policies and procedures.
Any behaviour that places a child or young person at risk, or that fails to meet the expectations outlined in this statement and related policies, will be taken seriously and addressed promptly.
Breaches may result in disciplinary or other appropriate action, which may include:
- Informal or formal warnings
- Mandatory training or corrective action
- Removal from duties involving contact with children
- Suspension or termination of employment, volunteer or student placement engagement
- Restriction or removal of access to the centre and/or its services
- Reporting to relevant authorities where required
The organisation will respond to all concerns and allegations in a fair, timely, and confidential manner, in line with organisational procedures and relevant legislation, including the Children and Young People (Safety) Act 2017 and the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.
Anyone who becomes aware of behaviour that may compromise the safety or wellbeing of a child is encouraged and expected to report the concern through the organisation’s reporting processes.
